Global Survey Launched to Examine Teen and Parent Perspectives on Screen Time

The Parent Coaching Institute (PCI) has launched a comprehensive global survey project focused on examining teen and parental perspectives regarding screen time and social media usage. This international research initiative spans multiple regions including the United States, Canada, the Middle East, and Europe, with the primary objective of uncovering critical insights into digital media consumption patterns and communication challenges within families.

Gloria DeGaetano, founder and CEO of PCI, emphasized the research's significance in addressing current gaps in understanding how screen time affects teen mental health. She noted that existing discussions often fail to adequately consider teen preferences and resilience strategies, making this direct engagement with both teens aged 11-18 and their parents particularly valuable for developing more effective approaches to digital media management.

Christina Gika, a PCI Certified Parent Coach® and instructor, highlighted the project's focus on overcoming communication barriers between parents and teenagers concerning technology use. The research aims to gather comprehensive data that will help families navigate media challenges while preserving strong interpersonal connections, addressing what has become a significant concern for many households worldwide.

The surveys will investigate multiple dimensions of screen time, including detailed examination of teen digital behaviors, preferences, and parental decision-making processes regarding technology use. Researchers anticipate that the collected data will provide nuanced insights into managing technology within family contexts, potentially offering new strategies for balancing digital engagement with healthy family dynamics.

Survey results are scheduled for compilation and release in Spring 2025, with expectations that the findings will offer valuable guidance for parents, educators, and family support professionals dealing with digital media challenges. PCI, which has been recognized by Life Coach Magazine for its top-tier parent coach training, continues to support professionals through its Parent Coach Certification® program. The organization employs evidence-based strategies and a well-researched coaching framework designed to create awareness and support families in managing complex technological interactions that characterize modern family life.
